Dichotic Interaural Intensity Difference (DIID) Training: A Review of Existing Research and Future Directions
نویسندگان
چکیده
Dichotic Interaural Intensity Difference (DIID) training was designed to address deficits in dichotic processing. The present review describes the theoretical and physiologic bases for this procedure, highlighting the available efficacy data that are currently available. Additionally, a new approach to the DIID (i.e., DIID II) is presented in which interaural timing deficits are utilized during training instead of interaural intensity differences (IIDs). The DIID II is considered in light of available research present on the dichotic lag effect and potential advantages it may provide, over the classic DIID protocol, in cases of peripheral hearing loss.

Auditory Remediation for a Patient with Landau-Kleffner Syndrome: A Case Study
Landau-Kleffner Syndrome (LKS) is a rare, childhood neurological disorder characterized by a sudden or gradual development of acquired aphasia. This case study offers a unique opportunity to assess the changes in the auditory processing ability of a 12 year old male with LKS after two distinct auditory training programs, Fast ForWord® and Dichotic Interaural Intensity Difference (DIID) training...
متن کاملReliability of Interaural Time Difference-Based Localization Training in Elderly Individuals with Speech-in-Noise Perception Disorder
Background: Previous studies have shown that interaural-time-difference (ITD) training can improve localization ability. Surprisingly little is, however, known about localization training vis-à-vis speech perception in noise based on interaural time difference in the envelope (ITD ENV). We sought to investigate the reliability of an ITD ENV-based training program in speech-in-noise perception a...
متن کاملEnvelope-based inter-aural time difference localization training to improve speech-in-noise perception in the elderly
Background: Many elderly individuals complain of difficulty in understanding speech in noise despite having normal hearing thresholds. According to previous studies, auditory training leads to improvement in speech-in-noise perception, but these studies did not consider the etiology, so their results cannot be generalized. The present study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of envelope-b...
متن کاملBinaural summation and lateralization of transients: a combined analysis.
Subjects judged the loudness and the lateral position of dichotic transient signals, which were presented at equal and unequal levels, synchronously and asynchronously, to the two ears. Binaural loudness summation of clicks does not obey a law of linear addition: It is partial at low level and superadditive at high level. Supersummation is greater for interaurally delayed clicks than for coinci...
